Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic Surgery

At Animal Care Clinic we perform a variety of orthopedic (bone) surgeries. To make sure that our patients receive the best service available, we will refer them to board-certified orthopedic surgeons when necessary to perform specialty operations that require advanced equipment or training

Out of all the orthopedic surgeries we perform the most common is leg fractures. Leg fractures can be treated in many different ways depending on where the fraction is, the type of fracture and the severity of the fracture. For some fractures all that is needed is a cast, but a large number of fractures will require surgery.

“Pinning” stabilizes the fracture by inserting a long stainless steel rod into the middle of the bone across the fractured area.

“Plating” involves attaching a flat stainless steel plate to the bone using screws on either side of the fracture.

“External fixation” stabilizes fractures using a series of pins on the outside of the leg that pass through the skin and into the bone on either side of the fracture.

At Animal Care Clinic we perform a number of orthopedic surgeries to assist with hip dysplasia and disc disease. If you have any questions or wish to set up an appointment for your pet please contact us.
